We focus on envisioning and implementing usable solutions for the masses using innovative approaches and techniques.  We are involved in:

• Speech signal processing

• Script and Image processing

• Natural Language Processing with a focus on question answering system

• Wireless Sensor technologies to enable build applications for rural development including agriculture and developing easy to use and relevant Next Gen Mobile Applications.

We interact with customers and other business groups within TCS towards commercializing technology and have scripted several success stories in this regard.

Research Areas

Speech, Script, Image and Natural Language Processing

The lab has been involved with several initiatives in the area of user experience and business analytics with a primary focus on employing speech, script, image and natural language technologies to devise applications with enhanced usability, accessibility, and interactivity.

Wireless Sensor Technology

The lab has been involved in marrying several technologies to create a framework which allows real time environment viewing remotely. The framework is itself generic allowing teleporting environment to enable remote advise, while the focus is on overall development of rural masses in the fields that include agriculture, health and education.

Next Gen Mobile Applications

The lab’s efforts in this area seek to enable pioneering applications based on and distributed through mobile devices, and create business opportunities by serving under-served sections of the consumer community.

Kisan Mitra: A question answering web interface in Hindi to enable farmers to automatixcally obtain usable answers to their queries.

Speech Based Self Help System: A free speech recognition solution to enable insurance agents get answers to their insurance queries

Accent Analysis: A system built to analyse spoken speech of a person to categorize the accent of the person to reference accents.

Natural Language Hindi Speech Interface: A free speech enabled system allowing querying Mandi Bhav of commodities in Hindi

Multimodal Data Entry for Form Filling: A speech, keyboard, mouse based system to enable faster form filling.

Keyword based indexing: A platform to enable building a dynamic keyword list from RSS feeds to aid spotting keywords in audio news broadcasts in Indian languages

Natural Language Interface to Register Citizen Complaints: A natural language English interface to enable citizens register complaints
