TCS Innovation Labs - TRDDC

We create tools and processes that simplify the development, maintenance, and management of large IT and engineering systems. A section of our research is directed at technology-led innovation and improvement across the environment, healthcare and education sectors.

Established in 1981, the TCS Innovation Labs-TRDDC is one of India’s premier research centres and houses the largest R&D facility among all TCS Innovations Labs.

Research areas

We research into three distinct areas:

Software Engineering

The Software Engineering research group seeks to evolve an inter-disciplinary collaboration, automation, and abstraction between various phases of a software development lifecycle, such as requirements gathering, application development, and testing.      

Process Engineering

Research and innovation at the Process Engineering group is focused on developing tools and processes that realise effective design, operation, and maintenance of chemical and other manufacturing processes.

Systems Research

The Systems Research lab develops solutions that help large IT plants simplify and transform their processes, and data-mining techniques that enhance operational efficiencies and improve data privacy.

Software Engineering

  • Assent – An automatic, specifications-driven standards enforcement tool for software  programming
  • MAPAGILE2.0 – A collaborative requirements gathering tool that enables accurate articulation and capture of system requirements.
  • MasterCraft–An integrated, object-oriented suite that supports a component-based, repository-driven development process.
  • Testify– A tool that addresses testing requirements through various phases of the application development lifecycle.

Process Engineering

Solutions and tools developed under the Process Engineering group can be classified as follows.

Metal / Materials Innovations

  • Virtual Indurator - Model-based process optimization and control for induration and pelletization operation
  • DRIKS - Process optimization and control for rotary kilns used to produce direct reduced iron (DRI)
  • Optimized Sintering
  • SecSim - Temporal thermal analysis of secondary steelmaking operation (Ladle and Tundish processing) for multivariable optimization
  • LFOR – Model based on-line advisory system for prediction of temperature and chemistry of steel in ladle furnace
  • ConSim – Model based process optimization of continuous casting operations
  • Wiredrawsim - Optimize the wire drawing process through model based process optimization and recommendations
  • BAFSim – Model based optimization for heat treatment through batch annealing furnaces
  • Carburizing Simulator - Optimization of batch and continuous carburizing operation

Green Technologies

Thermal assessment of Data Center - Multi-scale thermal CFD (computations fluid dynamics) model to assess and optimize the cooling requirements of data center so as to reduce the energy consumption
